Fixing who you see in the mirror does not fix what is in your account.
Those are two different repairs. For months, this space has been about the first one — the self-talk, the self-trust, the version of you that had to end so the next one could begin.
That work was never optional. But it was also never the whole job.
Money runs on its own inherited rules. Nobody sat you down and explained them. You picked them up the way you picked up everything else in that house — by watching what happened under pressure.

Maybe money was scarce, so you learned to hide what you have. Could it be that money meant obligation, so you learned that if you don’t give, you don’t belong? Maybe your household never discussed money at all, so you learned to feel ashamed just for thinking about it.
None of that was your fault. All of it is now your job to unlearn.
Think about the last payday. Not the plan you made for it — what you actually did in the first hour after it landed. Spent fast, before the guilt caught up. Gave some away before you’d even covered your own month. Or froze, scared to even open the app.

That reaction wasn’t random. Your household handed you this rule, and you’re running it exactly as trained.

This shows up differently depending on where you’re standing. The sales assistant works the same shift for the fifth year straight and still runs dry two days after payday. The tertiary student stretches a bursary further than it can go. The barber, the braider, the spaza owner — running a real business the bank still doesn’t recognize as one. The supervisor with a title, a salary, and a black tax bill nobody at the office knows about.
Four different lives. One shared inheritance.
The identity work built the foundation — the version of you steady enough to actually look at this instead of avoiding it. Money is the next structure going up on that foundation.

Starting this week, that’s what gets built here.
Money You Didn’t Learn At Home isn’t a savings-tips series. It’s an audit of every unspoken rule your household handed you about what money means, who deserves it, and what you’re allowed to do with it once it’s yours.
Some of those rules kept your family alive. Some of them are the exact reason you’re still stuck.
This week, we start telling the difference.
If you’ve been in this space a while, you already know this isn’t going to be comfortable. It isn’t supposed to be.
A new series starts next week. Follow the WhatsApp channel — that’s where Week 1 lands first.
